Gamcheon Culture Village

This village has houses arranged in tiers along a mountainside. It formed when refugees gathered there during the Korean War, and since the late 2000s, village art projects and urban-regeneration work have shaped it into what it is today. Its impression comes from pastel-painted roofs and narrow paths that split off like a maze.

As you walk, installation artworks and photo spots appear throughout the alleys, and many visitors buy a map at the information center and follow the stamp route. Vehicles from outside cannot enter the inner village, so you need to get around by village bus or on foot, and with so many stairs and slopes, comfortable shoes are necessary.

• • There are constant stairs and uphill stretches, so wear flat shoes and bring water.
• • This is a residential village, so avoid photographing directly toward homes, front doors, or windows.
• • Cars can't enter the village, so park near Gamjeong Elementary School and walk in.
