Hwarok Cave
📍 충주 목벌동, Chungju
Hwalok Cave is a mine whose development began in 1922, during the Japanese colonial era, and it was the only place in Korea where talc was mined. Records put its total length at 57 km, making it one of the largest of its kind in Asia, and a 2.5 km section has been renovated and opened to the public as a tourist site.
Inside the cave, the temperature stays at 11-15 degrees Celsius year-round, so you can explore comfortably even in midsummer. The kayak experience, where you paddle through the cave over a lake of collected rock water, is especially popular.
