Jangwon Makguksu Main Branch
📍 홍천읍 상오안길, Hongcheon
Jangwon Makguksu is a makguksu restaurant at the entrance to the Sangoan-ri Reservoir in Hongcheon, with many longtime regulars. It grinds domestic buckwheat fresh on-site and kneads the dough by hand for a long time, giving the noodles a firm, chewy bite.
Its signature dish is sun-memil makguksu (pure buckwheat noodles) served in a Korean beef broth, and you can choose between a mild mul-makguksu (cold noodle soup) or a sweet-and-spicy bibim-makguksu (mixed noodles). The odor-free pork suyuk (boiled pork) and crispy nokdu-bindaetteok (mung bean pancake) are also popular.

Useful tips
- It's open only from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., so it's best to avoid visiting in the late afternoon.
- It's closed every Tuesday, so be sure to check the day of the week before you visit.
- Adding the suyuk and nokdu-bindaetteok makes for a more filling meal than makguksu alone.
