Macau Day Trip: Hong Kong Ferries, the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge Bus, and a Senado Square Route

If you’re spending one day of a Hong Kong trip on Macau, the route is easy to plan: take a ferry to the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal if Senado Square comes first, or a ferry to Taipa if The Venetian comes first. To save money, compare that with the one-way HKD 65 fare on the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge Gold Bus.

Macau Day Trip: Ferry vs. Bus

Choose an Outer Harbour Ferry if Senado Square Comes First

For a day focused first on Senado Square, EasyTicket uses a TurboJET sailing from Sheung Wan to the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal as its baseline. The official timetable lists the crossing at about 60 minutes.

Choose a Taipa Ferry if The Venetian Comes First

At the Taipa Ferry Terminal, you can take a free shuttle to the Venetian resorts. It’s the more convenient choice when The Venetian is your first stop.

How to Reach Senado Square by Ferry

Depart from the Sheung Wan Terminal

The Hong Kong–Macau Ferry Terminal is on the third floor of Shun Tak Centre in Sheung Wan and is connected to Sheung Wan MTR Station. As of April 25, 2026, TurboJET standard class is HKD 194 on weekdays, HKD 212 on weekends and public holidays, and HKD 242 at night. It’s best to be ready to board at least 30 minutes before departure.

Take a City Bus After the Outer Harbour Terminal

After immigration, continue to Senado Square by local bus or taxi. The cash fare for Macau’s regular buses is MOP 6, and they don’t give change, so set aside the exact fare.

If Senado Square is your destination, check first that the ticket arrives at Macau Outer Harbour so you don’t confuse the terminals.

Pros and Cons of the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge Bus

The Gold Bus Costs HKD 65 During the Day

The Gold Bus between Hong Kong Port and Macau Port costs HKD 65 from 06:00~23:59 and HKD 70 from 00:00~05:59. That covers only the port-to-port leg, so budget separately for the trip from downtown Hong Kong to the port.

It’s Useful for a Late Return

The Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge shuttle runs 24 hours a day. After arriving at Macau Port, though, you’ll still need another transfer to Senado Square or The Venetian, so it’s a good fit when keeping transport costs down matters more than saving time.

Senado Square, Egg Tart, and The Venetian: A Suggested Route

Spend the Morning at Senado Square and Try an Egg Tart

On a Macau day trip, visit Senado Square first after immigration, then fit in an egg tart while walking the side streets. Regular city buses cost MOP 6 in cash per ride, which makes short transfers easy to budget.

Finish the Afternoon at The Venetian

The Venetian is connected to the Taipa Ferry Terminal by a free shuttle. I’d finish the peninsula walk first, head to The Venetian, then decide how much time to spend on the night view after confirming the departure terminal and time for the return trip.

Check Payments and Data Before Departure

  • Check the dates and arrival terminals for both ferry legs.
  • Prepare separate small-denomination MOP cash for Macau buses.
  • Check your travel card’s overseas-payment setting and balance before departure.
  • Check that the eSIM listing says data service is available in both Hong Kong and Macau.
  • Check that your travel documents are valid and review the entry requirements.

Payment methods vary by shop. Bringing cash for transport along with a card that works overseas gives you more ways to pay during your Macau trip.

Macau Day Trip FAQ

The last timetable from Outer Harbour to Sheung Wan includes a 23:00 sailing, while the 23:30 sailing from Taipa is listed as a special Friday-to-Sunday service. Recheck the timetable for your date before booking your return from a Macau day trip.

Can I Take a Taipa Ferry if I’m Headed to Senado Square?

You can, but this guide recommends choosing an Outer Harbour arrival when Senado Square is first on your itinerary. A Taipa ferry makes more sense when The Venetian and the Cotai area come first.

Does the HKD 65 Gold Bus Take Me from Downtown Hong Kong to The Venetian?

No. HKD 65 covers only the shuttle between Hong Kong Port and Macau Port. Budget separately for Downtown Hong Kong→Hong Kong Port and Macau Port→your final destination.

How Should I Choose My Return Ferry Terminal?

If you arrived at Outer Harbour in the morning, check the return sailing from Outer Harbour first; if you used the free shuttle from The Venetian, prioritize the return sailing from Taipa. Checking the last sailing time and whether special services are operating first will make your Macau day-trip route much more reliable.
