Jeondeungsa Temple
📍 길상면, Ganghwa
Jeondeungsa Temple stands within Jeongjoksanseong Fortress. It's said to have begun as Jinjongsa Temple, founded in 381 CE by the monk Ado, and to have taken its present name after the queen presented the temple with a jade lantern during the reign of King Chungnyeol of Goryeo.
The temple grounds bring together several halls designated as Treasures, including Daeungjeon and Yaksajeon, and visitors can also see the old site of Jeongjoksago, the archive that once safeguarded the Joseon dynasty's Annals. A victory monument commemorating the defeat of French forces during the 1866 Byeongin yangyo (French Campaign) also stands near the east gate.
