Auraji takes its name from being the spot where two streams, the Songcheon and the Goljicheon, merge into one. The Songcheon flows down from Doam-myeon in Pyeongchang, and the Goljicheon from Hajang-myeon in Samcheok, joining at this spot.
The Maiden Statue stands where the two streams meet, and you can cross the 120m brushwood bridge to walk the loop trail. It's been a well-known spot for so long that it even appears in the lyrics of the folk song "Jeongseon Arirang." Visit in late spring or early fall, and the riverside scenery feels even more atmospheric.
