Haemi Eupseong (Haemi Walled Town)
📍 해미면, Seosan
Haemi Eupseong is a stone walled town completed in 1491 during the reign of King Seongjong of Joseon, and one of Korea's representative Joseon-era eupseong walled towns, with a circumference of about 1.8km. It has gate pavilions on the east, south, and west sides, and after recent restoration has been developed as a historic park.
During the late-Joseon Catholic persecutions, many believers are said to have been martyred here, where the local government office once stood, making it known as a pilgrimage site. In the square inside the walls stands a centuries-old pagoda tree, alongside the old prison site, still bearing traces of torture.
