Tongdosa
📍 하북면 통도사로, Yangsan
Tongdosa is a Buddha-relic temple enshrining the Buddha's sarira, and is counted as one of Korea's three jewel temples. It's said to have been built at royal command by the Silla monk Jajang after he returned from studying in Tang China, and since it enshrines the Buddha's actual relics, its Daeungjeon Hall notably has no separate Buddha statue.
The Daeungjeon Hall and Geumgang Gyedan ordination platform are designated National Treasures, while 26 items — including a silver-inlaid bronze incense burner — are Treasures held at the Seongbo Museum. In spring, the Jajangmae plum tree and other plum blossoms bloom, making it widely known as a plum-blossom spot as well.

Useful tips
- The Jajangmae plum tree can start blooming as early as late February, so check bloom updates in advance if you want to catch it in flower.
- The temple grounds are large, so if you plan to visit the Seongbo Museum as well, set aside one to two hours.
- A temple stay program is also available, so if you'd like a quieter, longer stay, it's worth looking into ahead of time.
