The National Palace Museum, in Shilin in northern Taipei, is Taiwan's flagship museum. Instead of trying to see its huge collections of ceramics, calligraphy and painting, and bronzes all at once, pick the main galleries first to cut down on museum fatigue.
Since it's a little away from the city center, it feels more natural to attach it to a Shilin-Beitou itinerary than to force it into the same day as Taipei 101 or Yongkang Street. Special exhibitions and some galleries may change their operations, so check the official information before visiting.
