Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge: A Half-Day Cable-Car Route That Cuts Stair Climbing for Parents and Kids

If you’re visiting Wonju’s Sogeumsan with parents and children, this is a good route: skip the first climb by taking the cable car, then walk one way from the Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge to the Wonju Ulleong Bridge. Even after the cable car, you’ll still need to walk the 700m deck trail and bridge sections.

📌 What Changes When You Take the Cable Car

The key way to cut down on stairs

After laying out the route again using the facility map, I found the simplest order is Media Art Center → cable car → Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge. The 22 ten-passenger cabins travel 972m, and the one-way ride takes 6 minutes.

The cable car cuts out the initial climb, but it doesn’t eliminate walking. The deck trail, Sogeum Jando Trail, Sky Tower, and Wonju Ulleong Bridge follow one after another.

Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge vs. Ulleong Bridge

The Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge is 200m long and 100m high. The Wonju Ulleong Bridge, later in the course, stretches 404m, so it feels like a longer crossing. If anyone in the family is afraid of heights, talk it over before setting out and make sure everyone is comfortable crossing both bridges.

❓ Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge FAQ

Does taking the cable car mean we barely have to walk to Ulleong Bridge?

No. The cable car covers the initial 972m uphill stretch in 6 minutes, but you still have to walk the deck trail and both bridges afterward.

What is the fare for parents aged 65 and over?

The discounted fare on the cable-car route is 12,000 won for adults. Bring proof of age.

What are the fares for children under 7, and what are the stroller rules?

The published fare table lists children only as ages 7~12. It’s safest to call the main number before visiting to confirm fares for children 6 and under and whether strollers are allowed.

If you’re traveling with family and worried about stairs, put the cable car at the start of your morning route and take frequent breaks before the Ulleong Bridge. Check the weather and same-day operating notices, and you can comfortably cover the highlights of Wonju’s Sogeumsan in half a day.
