Matthieu Yeosu

The site of today's Matthieu Yeosu was home to the first hotel in Honam when it opened in 1967. Even after reopening under a new name in winter 2014, it retains the feel of that era, with paintings throughout the corridors and rooms and a gallery in the basement.

The words that appear most often in reviews are 'clean' and 'friendly.' The impression is less of a new building and more of an old one carefully maintained. It is especially well suited to travelers who plan to walk between Odongdo and Expo Station.

Explore the property

The exterior gets plenty of care—reviews say it looks the best among nearby hotels. It is not large, but some guests say it resembles an old small-town European hotel. The little garden beside the building is also often praised as charming.

The front desk comes up unusually often in reviews. Guests mention staff coming out to the entrance to greet them or printing out a list of Yeosu restaurants and handing it to them. Paintings line the walls from the lobby into the corridors, making the walk around the hotel more interesting.

The rooms have been remodeled, so most reviews describe them as tidy rather than rundown. Several reviews say the ondol floors are wonderfully warm in winter, and the bedding is often praised too. A few guests were disappointed with the cleaning, though, so experiences may vary.

Reviews are notably positive, with one guest calling the bathroom layout and flow the most convenient they have seen among the hotels they have visited. The dry-style bathroom has a separate bathtub, making it nice to soak after a day of walking. One review did mention that the sink drained poorly.

  3성 호텔이지만 4성 수준으로 깔끔하고 좋습니다. 생각 이상으로 역사가 깊은곳이라 예술관도 있는데 호텔 자체도 좀 즐길껄하는 아쉬움이 남습니다. 그리고 아쉬웠던 점 한가지는 와이파이가 안터지는 객실이 있어 문의 후 다른 호실꺼를 끌어다 썻는데, 사전 안내를 해주시면 더 좋을것 같습니다.
