EasyTicket Seongsan Ilchulbong

Rising from the sea as a volcanic cone, it still has a large crater at the summit. It was listed as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site in 2007 and is one of the busiest places in eastern Jeju.
From the ticket office to the summit, the route follows stairs all the way, and if you walk without stopping, you can get up in about 30 minutes. From the top, the grass-covered inside of the crater, the sea off Seongsan, and the direction of Udo all come into view at once.
Aside from the paid trail, there is also a free section along the coast, so if the climb feels like a lot, you can just look around the lower area. It opens early in the morning, and many people come for the sunrise.

Useful tips
- Since most of the way to the summit is stairs, it's best to wear shoes that do not slip.
- Allow just over an hour round trip, and you will have enough time for photos too.
- It is closed on the first Monday of every month, so check the date before planning your visit.
- Ticket sales end 1 hour before closing, so a late-afternoon visit can be tight.
- There is no shade, so avoid midday in midsummer and climb early in the morning for an easier visit.
Frequently asked questions
Is the climb to the top very hard?
The stairs keep going and you will get winded, but it takes about 30 minutes to reach the top. There are places to rest along the way, so climbing slowly is not too demanding.
Is there also a section you can see without paying?
Below the ticket office, there is a free coastal trail section where you can see the side of Ilchulbong and the sea. To see the crater, you need to go up the paid section.
