Ikseon-dong Hanok Street Alley Shopping
📍 익선동, Seoul
Behind Jongno 3(sam)-ga Station, this neighborhood is packed with small hanok built in the 1920s. The alleys are so narrow that barely one person can pass through, so it suits a wander-and-drop-into-whatever-shop-catches-your-eye approach better than setting a fixed destination.
From the mid-2010s, cafes, restaurants, and small lifestyle shops began moving into renovated hanok, creating the street you see today. The shops are most tightly packed around Supyo-ro 28-gil and Donhwamun-ro 11da-gil.
The area is not large, so it doesn't take long to make a full loop. Jongmyo Shrine, Changdeokgung Palace, and Gwangjang Market are all within walking distance, making it easy to add as the final stop after a palace visit.

Useful tips
- Come out of Exit 4 or 6 of Jongno 3-ga Station, and the alley entrance is right there.
- The alley is narrow, so on weekend evenings it gets crowded enough that you may have to shuffle along with the crowd.
- Most shops are small, so if your group has four or more people, the wait can get long.
- The route works neatly if you continue on foot to the Jongmyo stone wall path or Gwangjang Market.
Frequently asked questions
Can I bring a car?
Cars cannot enter the alleys, and parking is difficult on nearby roads too. Jongno 3(sam)-ga Station is right next door, so coming by public transit is definitely easier.
