Baro Haejang

📍 광안동, Busan

Baro Haejang photo

This haejangguk restaurant sits one block inland from Gwangalli Beach. The broth is simmered long with beef head meat, rib meat, shank, and offal, so it has a deeper meaty flavor than a clear gukbap.

The signature dish is So Hanmari Haejangguk (whole-cow hangover soup), with rice warmed directly in the broth before serving. The deboned rib-meat suyuk is good for sharing, and the combo of spicy dressed suyuk with naengmyeon noodles is another frequent order.

Despite the name, it doesn't open before dawn; it only operates from daytime into the evening. There is a mid-afternoon break, so if you're planning a late lunch, time your visit carefully.

Useful tips

  • The break starts at 3:30 PM, so get in before 3 PM for a late lunch.
  • The haejangguk comes with rice already warmed in the soup, so you don't need to ask for rice separately.
  • If your group has three or more people, ordering one plate of suyuk to share works well.
  • It's within walking distance of Gwangalli Beach, so it's easy to add before or after beach plans.

Frequently asked questions

Is it open before dawn?

Despite Haejang in the name, it isn't open 24 hours: it opens at 11 AM and closes at 10 PM. If you're after hangover soup before dawn, you'll need to find a separate 24-hour gukbap place around Gwangalli.

What other dishes are available besides the signature menu?

Boiled beef ribs (suyuk) / whole-beef udon gukbap / suyuk cold-noodle muchim, etc.
