EasyTicket Ojukheon

Ojukheon is an early Joseon annex house traditionally known as the home where Shin Saimdang gave birth to Yulgok Yi I. It is designated as a Treasure as one of the oldest surviving examples of residential architecture, and the inner Mongnyongsil room is known as Yi I's birthplace. The house got the name Ojukheon from the black bamboo growing around it.
As you move through the courtyard, Munseongsa Shrine, the sarangchae quarters, and Eojegak Pavilion appear one by one. At the Yulgok Memorial Hall, you can see writings and paintings left by Shin Saimdang and Yulgok, as well as Maechang and Oksan. Since the route continues to the Gangneung Municipal Museum on the same grounds, a full loop usually takes one to two hours.

Useful tips
- If you want to see the Yulgok Memorial Hall and the municipal museum too, it's better to allow one to two hours.
- Ticket sales end at 5 PM, so move your visit earlier if you're arriving in the late afternoon.
- Visitors age 65 and older and preschool children enter free, so it's worth bringing ID.
- If the parking lot is full, use the nearby parking area in front of the Gangneung Nongak Training Center.
- Lake Gyeongpo and Gyeongpodae Pavilion are nearby, so it works well to pair Ojukheon in the morning with Gyeongpo in the afternoon.
Frequently asked questions
Are there cases where I can visit without paying admission?
Visitors age 65 and older, children age 6 and under, and Gangneung residents themselves enter free. In summer, there have also been cases where admission was free after 5 PM during Friday and Saturday night openings.
