Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, Night View with Cheomseongdae Observatory

This is the site of a detached palace attached to the Silla royal palace, with an artificial pond. It was long called Anapji, but after artifacts inscribed with the characters "Wolji" were identified, the name was changed in 2011. Three of the building sites uncovered during excavation have been reconstructed, and the signature view is the lit-up halls reflected in the water.

The pond edge was designed with curves, so the view changes from each spot as you walk. It's open until 10 p.m.; if you enter around sunset, you can catch both the daytime scenery and the night view. It's also easy to link on foot with Cheomseongdae and Gyerim Forest as an evening walking route. The Cheomseongdae area is open without an admission fee.

• • Cheomseongdae, Gyerim Forest, and Daereungwon connect on foot, making them easy to group into a nighttime walking route.
• • Night photos blur easily, so it helps to brace your arms on the railing when you shoot.
• • On weekend evenings, lines form at the best pondside photo spots, so aim to arrive a little early.
