If you’re trying to decide where to take your parents, Yeoju is a great pick. It’s just over an hour from Seoul, and Silleuksa Temple, Yeongneung (King Sejong’s Tomb), and the premium outlets are all within a 20-minute drive of one another, making for an easy one-day route. This guide lays out a walking route built around an elderly-friendly pace, keeping stairs and inclines to a minimum.
Why Yeoju Works Well for a Trip with Your Parents
The biggest reason is that the route is short and flat. From Yeoju IC or Seoyeoju IC, it’s about a 13-minute drive to Silleuksa Temple, and from there to Yeongneung (King Sejong’s Tomb) and on to Yeoju Premium Outlets, each leg runs around 20 minutes or less. With such short drive times, your parents won’t have to sit in the car for long stretches.
Another plus is that sightseeing, meals, and shopping are naturally split up by type. In the morning you take a leisurely stroll around the riverside temple, at midday you walk slowly along the grassy paths of the royal tomb, and in the afternoon you wind down sitting and resting at the indoor outlet mall — a flow that paces out everyone’s energy well.
When traveling with elderly parents, budget 1 to 1.5 hours per stop and build in plenty of sit-down breaks in between. The goal isn’t to see all three places — it’s to get around comfortably.

Silleuksa Temple — Start with a Flat Riverside Stroll
The first stop is Silleuksa, a thousand-year-old temple on the banks of the Namhangang River. Unlike mountain temples, it sits on flat riverside ground with almost no uphill stretches, so elderly visitors can take their time looking around without a cane or wheelchair. There’s no ticket booth to worry about, either — admission to Silleuksa has been free since May 2023 (source: Cultural Heritage Administration).

Parking is easy too. The Silleuksa tourist area has a free parking lot with room for 884 cars, and the main entrance is equipped with a wheelchair ramp, accessible parking, and an accessible restroom. It works well even if your parents have limited mobility.
- Address: 73 Silleuksa-gil, Yeoju-si, Gyeonggi-do
- Hours: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM (closed for a break in Nov–Dec)
- Admission & Parking: Both free
- Tip for elderly visitors: Plenty of riverside pavilions and benches make it easy to sit and rest along the way
In fall, the temple’s 600-year-old ginkgo tree turns brilliant yellow, making it a favorite photo spot. There’s a breeze off the river, so it’s a good idea to bring a light jacket for the morning.
Yeongneung, King Sejong’s Tomb — An Easy Grassy Approach
After lunch, spend the afternoon at Yeongneung, the tomb of King Sejong. As a Joseon royal tomb, it has a wide approach path of gentle grass and packed earth, so walking isn’t much of a strain. There is an uphill stretch up to the burial mound itself, so there’s no need to push it — a slow walk as far as the jaesil (the tomb’s ritual preparation hall) and approach path is plenty.

Admission won’t be a burden for elderly visitors either. It’s 500 won for adults, but free for anyone 65 or older (source: Royal Palaces and Tombs Center). Bring your parents along and you’ll really only be paying for your own ticket.

Lunch: Yeoju Rice-Based Set Meals
Yeoju is famous for its rice. Between Silleuksa and Yeongneung, there are several restaurants serving rice-based set meals (hanjeongsik-style, with an array of side dishes) that are gentle on older stomachs. The mild, tidy side dishes tend to suit parents’ tastes well. The restaurant row near the Silleuksa tourist area has ample parking, so waiting with the car isn’t an issue.
We’d recommend timing your meal for before you enter Yeongneung (around 11:30 AM to noon). Sit down to eat before the lunch rush, then walk slowly around the royal tomb afterward to help with digestion — that flow suits elderly stamina well.
Rather than walking a lot right after eating, the 15–20 minutes spent driving to the next stop double as a natural digestion break. Planning the route this way makes the day easier on everyone.
Yeoju Premium Outlets — Wind Down and Relax
The last stop is Shinsegae Simon Yeoju Premium Outlets. It’s a mix of indoor and outdoor stores, but with plenty of benches, rest areas, and restaurants, it’s a great way to wrap up the day at a relaxed, seated pace. It’s also a perfect spot to pick up a new outfit or pair of shoes for your parents.
Operating hours vary by season.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Won’t visiting all three places in one day be too much for my parents?
It’s manageable if you budget 1 to 1.5 hours per stop with sit-down breaks in between. Silleuksa and Yeongneung are mostly flat, so walking isn’t too demanding, and the indoor outlet mall is a comfortable way to finish up while resting. If you’re worried about stamina, skipping Yeongneung and doing just Silleuksa and the outlets is also a good option.
Do we have to climb all the way up to the burial mound at Yeongneung?
Not at all. Seeing just the jaesil, the approach path, and the King Sejong the Great History and Culture Museum is plenty. The area above the burial mound is uphill, so don’t push it — make the climb slowly, and only if everyone’s feeling up to it.
Can we bring a wheelchair or stroller?
Yes. Silleuksa’s main entrance has a wheelchair ramp, accessible parking, and an accessible restroom, so getting around is easy. Yeongneung’s approach path is also fairly flat, so getting as far as the jaesil area isn’t difficult. Just keep in mind that the section leading up to the burial mound has a slope.
Is everything open on weekdays?
Silleuksa and the outlets are open on weekdays, but Yeongneung is closed every Monday. If you’re planning a weekday trip with your parents, just avoid Monday and you’ll be able to see all three places.
With short travel times and a flat, easy route, Yeoju is a genuinely comfortable place to take your parents. Use the schedule in this guide and take it slow, at an elderly-friendly pace. And with free admission at Silleuksa and free entry to Yeongneung for anyone 65 or older, it’s easy on the wallet too.
