Gangjin fits neatly into a single day. Follow the route Gaudo Suspension Bridge → Dasan Chodang and the Baengnyeonsa forest trail → Byeongyeong charcoal-grilled pork bulgogi → Yeongnang’s Birthplace and Gangjinman Ecological Park and you can hit all the highlights without much travel hassle. Many of the spots are free to enter, too, so it’s easy on the wallet.
Gangjin Day Trip at a Glance (Route, Budget, Time)
This itinerary starts at Gaudo in the morning, then moves on to Dasan Chodang and Byeongyeong in the afternoon. Since admission is free almost everywhere, you’ll only need to budget for meals plus the zip line.

| 09:30 | Gaudo Hamkkehae-gil trek | 2 suspension bridges + 2.5km loop trail | Free |

Gaudo: Two Suspension Bridges and the 2.5km Hamkkehae-gil
It’s one of the “12 Scenic Spots of Gangjin” and essentially the signature stop on any Gangjin trip. Two suspension bridges connect the island on either side — the 438m Jeodu Suspension Bridge and the 716m Mangho Suspension Bridge — so you can loop all the way around and back.

Hamkkehae-gil (“Together by the Sea” Trail) and Cheongja Tower
The 2.5km Hamkkehae-gil, an eco-trail that follows the coastline, takes about 1 to 1.5 hours to walk in full. At the top of the island stands the 25m-tall Cheongja Tower (“Celadon Tower”), where the zip line departs, crossing over the sea and landing at Jeodu beach in Daegu-myeon.

| Item | Info |
|---|---|
| Admission/Parking | Free (open year-round) |
| Loop trail | Hamkkehae-gil, 2.5km, about 1.5 hours |
| Zip line | 09:00–18:00, 25,000 won per person |
| Suspension bridge length | Jeodu 438m / Mangho 716m |
Since both admission and parking at Gaudo are free, it draws a lot of families. The parking lot fills up quickly on weekend mornings, so we recommend arriving around 09:00. (Source: Gangjin County Office)
Dasan Chodang and the Baengnyeonsa Forest Trail: An 800m Camellia Forest Walk
This is where Jeong Yak-yong, better known by his pen name Dasan, spent about 10 of his 18 years in exile. An 800m forest trail, about a 30-minute walk, connects Dasan Chodang to Baengnyeonsa, so you can visit the hermitage and the temple together in one stop.

Gangjin Food: Byeongyeong Charcoal-Grilled Pork Bulgogi and Hanjeongsik
For lunch in Gangjin, the charcoal bulgogi street in Byeongyeong-myeon is the answer. It’s a 25-minute drive from Gaudo, making it a perfect stop to slot into the middle of your route.
Seolseong Restaurant (Byeongyeong-myeon)
A restaurant with 50 years of history specializing in charcoal-grilled pork bulgogi hanjeongsik (a Korean set-course meal). There’s essentially one menu item: the charcoal-grilled pork bulgogi set meal. It comes with seasonal namul (seasoned vegetables), kimchi, and pork bulgogi grilled right over the charcoal, all served together.

| Hours | 11:00–19:00 |

The 15:00–17:00 break is when the restaurant closes to reset. Plan your route so you arrive for lunch by 14:00 at the latest. Since it’s closed on Mondays, if you’re doing a weekend-to-Monday overnight trip, it’s safer to shift this meal to Sunday evening instead.
Yeongnang’s Birthplace and Gangjinman Ecological Park: A Walk and Sunset
Later in the afternoon, head into Gangjin-eup to visit the birthplace of the poet Yeongnang (Kim Yun-sik) and Gangjinman Ecological Park.
Yeongnang’s Birthplace

- Address: 15 Yeongnangsaengga-gil, Gangjin-eup, Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do
- Inquiries: 061-430-3377
- Highlights: The birthplace of poet Kim Yeong-nang, famous for the poem “Until the Peonies Bloom”; the well-kept garden makes for a pleasant stroll
Gangjinman Ecological Park
Next to the smart farm below Nampo Village, there’s a parking lot with space for around 1,500 cars, so parking is easy. Trails and a bike path are well maintained through the reed fields, and in fall the Gangjinman Dancing Reeds Festival takes place here.

Arrive at Gangjinman Ecological Park 30 minutes before sunset and you’ll catch the sky turning orange over the reed fields. A short 30-minute walk is plenty.
How to Turn This Into an Overnight (2-Day) Trip
If a day trip feels too tight, we recommend making it an overnight, 2-day trip instead. On the second day, you can take your time at Gangjinman, Maryang Port, and the Baengnyeonsa camellia forest, or head further south to connect with Wando and Haenam.
| Day 1 (this article’s course) | Day 2 suggestion |
|---|---|
| Gaudo → Lunch in Byeongyeong → Dasan Chodang | Maryang Port → Gangjinman Ecological Park → Baengnyeonsa camellia forest |
| Yeongnang’s Birthplace → Sunset at Gangjinman Ecological Park | Celadon Museum → Wollamsaji Temple Site → Head home |

- Express bus: Central City Terminal (Honam Line) → Gangjin Bus Terminal, 5 times a day / Seoul Express Bus Terminal → Gangjin, 6 times a day (first bus 07:30, last bus 18:00)
- KTX + bus: Take the KTX to Gwangju-Songjeong Station, then transfer to a direct bus to Gangjin (transferring to an intercity bus at Gwangju-Songjeong tends to be the fastest option)
- By car: Seohaean Expressway → Mokpo → exit at Gangjin IC
Parking Info
| Location | Parking |
|---|---|
| Gaudo | Free (both parking lots) |
| Dasan Chodang | Free; access road is narrow and often fills up on weekends |
| Gangjinman Ecological Park | Free, space for about 1,500 cars |
| Seolseong Restaurant, Byeongyeong | Use the nearby public parking lot |
Pre-Trip Checklist
- Confirm Gaudo zip line hours, 09:00–18:00 (25,000 won per person)
- Confirm Dasan Chodang visiting hours, 09:00–18:00
- Check Seolseong Restaurant’s Monday closure and break time (15:00–17:00)
- Gangjin tourism info line: 061-430-3114
- Comfortable sneakers (2.5km at Gaudo + 800m forest trail at Dasan Chodang)
- A light jacket for spring/fall temperature swings
The access road to Dasan Chodang is narrow and sloped, so the line for parking gets long on weekend afternoons. Arriving between 13:00 and 14:00 can mean you can’t even get in, so head over right after your meal if you can.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How much budget should I plan for a Gangjin day trip?
Since admission is free almost everywhere, 50,000–70,000 won per person is plenty. Budgeting roughly 25,000 won for the zip line + 15,000 won for lunch + snacks, drinks, and gas leaves you comfortable room.
Is the Gaudo suspension bridge okay if I’m afraid of heights?
The 438m Jeodu Suspension Bridge is designed to sway less, so it’s relatively comfortable to cross. The 716m Mangho Suspension Bridge is longer, and a lot of people stop for a short break partway across.
What if walking from Dasan Chodang to Baengnyeonsa feels like too much?
Dasan Chodang and Baengnyeonsa each have their own separate access road. By car, it’s about a 10-minute drive between them. If your knees aren’t up for the walk, it’s easier to drive to each one separately.
Is it worth visiting on a rainy day?
We wouldn’t recommend the Gaudo suspension bridge or Dasan Chodang in the rain — they get slippery. If rain is in the forecast, switch to an indoor-focused route instead, like the Gangjin Celadon Museum, Yeongnang’s Birthplace, and the Simunhakpa Memorial Hall (a museum for Gangjin’s 1930s poetry circle).
Between spring and fall, when’s the best time to visit Gangjin?
Late March through April is prime time for the Baengnyeonsa camellia forest, while October–November is peak season for the Gangjinman reed fields. Both are signature Gangjin experiences, so pick your timing based on which one you’re after.
The starting point of today’s course is Gaudo. Free admission, free parking, and great photo spots make it an easy, low-pressure trip. If you haven’t decided where to go next weekend, put Gangjin on your shortlist.
