Changwon Day Trip: Where Should You Start?

Nature and Relaxation Spots: Junam Reservoir and Yongji Lake

Junam Reservoir (A Paradise for Migratory Birds)

Junam Reservoir, in Changwon’s Dong-eup, is the region’s signature migratory bird habitat. Greater white-fronted geese and white-naped cranes flock here in fall and winter, while lotus flowers and silver grass take over in spring and summer. A relaxed plan is to browse the ecology exhibits at the Ramsar Cultural Center, then walk the trail.

The Ramsar Cultural Center is open 09:30–17:30 and closed on Mondays from April through September. The trail itself is open at all times, so you can walk it even early in the morning.

Yongji Lake (A Night-View Spot in the Heart of the City)

This is an urban lake right in the middle of Seongsan-gu. It’s open until 10 PM, which makes it a popular spot for an evening walk with a view. Cherry blossoms bloom here in spring and camellias in winter, and there’s a music fountain, too. The moving-boat rentals are inexpensive — around KRW 20,000 for up to 4 people for 30 minutes, or KRW 30,000 for 60 minutes.

Jinhae’s Atmospheric Course: Cherry Blossom Paths and Café Street

Of all Changwon’s districts, Jinhae is the busiest during cherry blossom season. The 64th Jinhae Gunhangje Festival in 2026 runs for 10 days, March 27–April 5. Crowds at Yeojwacheon Stream and Gyeonghwa Station get enormous during this period, so I’d recommend going early in the morning or visiting on a weekday.

Yeojwacheon’s Romance Bridge

Cherry trees line both banks of the roughly 1.5 km stream, forming a tunnel of pink blossoms. It’s also nicknamed the “Wedding Path,” which makes it a popular date spot for couples.

Gyeonghwa Station Cherry Blossom Path

Around the old railway tracks and this now-defunct station, a roughly 800 m tunnel of cherry blossoms forms. It’s a great photo spot — which also means it’s crowded, so if you want shots without people in them, aim to arrive before 8 AM.

Sokcheon Café Street

This café street forms around Jinhae’s Sokcheon Harbor, with ocean views. The atmosphere is good year-round, not just during cherry blossom season, so it’s worth a stop whenever you’re combining it with a Jinhae visit.

During the Gunhangje Festival, traffic control in downtown Jinhae is frequent. It’s much faster to park near Jinhae Station or Changwon Station and take a shuttle bus in.

Downtown Strolling Spots: Garosu-gil and The House of Changwon

Changwon Garosu-gil (Metasequoia Road)

Near Seongjusa Station, Garosu-gil is an urban walking path lined with around 630 metasequoia trees. It’s free and open 24 hours, and the atmosphere holds up even driving through, which makes it a popular drive-by spot, too.

The House of Changwon

This free attraction preserves a traditional hanok complex from the late Joseon era. It’s open 09:00–18:00, with no closing days, and preserves 14 buildings, including a raised gate (soteul daemun), a men’s quarters (sarangchae), and a folk museum hall. It’s a good spot to visit with family or with international guests.

If you’re planning around a date, it’s best to pick out only the spots that are close together and have good atmosphere.
