1.5 Dakgalbi Main Branch

📍 후평동, Chuncheon

1.5 Dakgalbi Main Branch photo

Opened in 1989, this is a griddle dakgalbi restaurant now run into the son's generation. It's easy to find, right in front of the Hupyeong-dong artificial waterfall, and because it's away from the tourist-heavy Myeongdong alley, the meal feels relatively calm.

One popular order here is dakgalbi stir-fried together with chicken giblets. Once you're done, the usual Chuncheon dakgalbi finish is the same: fried rice in the remaining sauce.

It's just over 10 minutes by car from downtown and closes on the 5th Wednesday of each month. Seats tend to fill at lunchtime and early dinner, so shifting your timing a little makes the visit easier.

Useful tips

  • Mixing in a little chicken giblet brings out this place's signature flavor.
  • Save room for fried rice at the end - that's when the meal feels complete.
  • It's quieter than the Myeongdong alley, making it a good alternative when you want to avoid the wait.
  • The Hupyeong-dong artificial waterfall is right in front of the restaurant, so it's easy to continue with a post-meal walk.
  • It's closed on the 5th Wednesday of each month, so check the date before you go.

Frequently asked questions

How is it different from Chuncheon Myeongdong Dakgalbi Alley?

Myeongdong has several restaurants clustered together, so choosing one is part of the fun. This place sticks to the long-running style of a single old-school restaurant. If you want to sit down without waiting, Hupyeong-dong is the easier option.

What other dishes are available besides the signature menu?

Chicken innards / fried rice
