Metasequoia Tree-Lined Road

📍 담양읍 학동리, Damyang

Metasequoia Tree-Lined Road photo

In 1972, Damyang County planted 1,300 young metasequoia trees along a 5km stretch of National Route 24. Half a century later, the now-towering trees line the road in rows, forming an exotic-looking avenue.

Straight trees line both sides of the road, forming tunnel-like stretches that are great for photos, and walking early in the morning means fewer people and a quieter stroll. The changing shades of green each season are part of the appeal too.

Useful tips

  • Early morning, when there are fewer people around, is best for both photos and walking.
  • Some stretches have vehicle traffic, so stay toward the shoulder and walk carefully.
  • It's close to Gwanbangjerim and Juknokwon, so it's easy to combine into a walking tour of Damyang.
