Seoraksan Gwongeumseong Cable Car

📍 설악동(소공원), Sokcho

Seoraksan Gwongeumseong Cable Car photo

This cable car departs from Sogongwon (Small Park) in Seorak-dong and climbs to the foot of Gwongeumseong Fortress at 700m elevation. The one-way ride takes just over 5 minutes, so you can reach a height that would be tough to hike to without wearing yourself out.

After getting off, climb the rocky path for another 10-15 minutes and you'll reach the Gwongeumseong Observatory. Strange rock formations and ridgelines spread out on all sides, and on clear days you can see toward Ulsanbawi Rock and out to the East Sea.

Gwongeumseong is the site of an old mountain fortress, also known as Seoraksanseong. Most of the walls have collapsed and only traces remain, so today most people come for the view rather than the fortress site.
