Yeongnangho Lakeside Trail

📍 영랑동, Sokcho

Yeongnangho Lakeside Trail photo

Yeongnangho is a natural lagoon formed when a bay once connected to the sea was blocked by sand, and its perimeter is nearly 8km. A walking path follows the lakeshore, so you can walk the full loop or choose only the section you like.

A 400m-long floating walkway crosses the middle of the lake, letting you walk over the water while facing toward Seoraksan's Ulsanbawi Rock. Its height adjusts with the water level, keeping a steady distance from the surface.

On one side of the walking path is Beombawi Rock, counted among Sokcho's Eight Scenic Views. The spot has long been known through the story that Yeongnang, a Hwarang of Silla, was so taken with the scenery that he stayed here; the lake's name comes from him as well.

Useful tips

  • Walking the full loop takes about two hours, so if you want a shorter visit, just do the floating walkway section.
  • Look toward Ulsanbawi Rock from the floating walkway and you can frame the lake together with the Seorak ridgeline.
  • Some sections have little shade, so morning or around sunset is better than midday in summer.
  • The parking lots are spread across several areas, so it is best to park near the section you want to walk.
