Seopirang 99 Steps

This stairway was created as the hills around Myeongjeong-dong in western Tongyeong were renovated into a park. It has piano-key steps that play notes as you step on them, and the neighborhood also served as the setting for Park Kyung-ni's novel The Daughters of Kim's Pharmacy.

At the top of the stairs is Seoporu Pavilion; from there, you can see Gangguan Harbor as well as Dongpirang and Bukporu across the way. It draws fewer visitors than Dongpirang, so it's a place to take in the view quietly.

After landscape lighting was installed in November 2020, it became worth walking after sunset too. Until midnight, the stairs, walking paths, and Seoporu light up in sequence, giving a completely different impression from daytime.

Useful tips

• • If climbing the stairs all at once is hard, break it up at the rest spots along the way.
• • The view opens up not at the end of the stairs, but after you continue up to Seoporu above them.
• • Chungnyeolsa Shrine and Sebyeonggwan are within walking distance, so they're easy to pair together.
• • Go up around sunset and you can catch both the view and the night lighting in one visit.
• • When Dongpirang is crowded, many people come here as a quieter alternative.
