Hyuhyuam
📍 현남면 광진리, Yangyang
Hyuhyuam is a hermitage founded in 1997 by the monk Hongbeop, and its name carries the meaning 'rest, and rest again.' In 1999, it became a well-known place of prayer after a rock resembling the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara (Gwanseeum-bosal) appeared by the shore.
On the broad rock known as Yeonhwadae, it's fun to spot the rock resembling Gwanseeum-bosal and a turtle-shaped rock, and unusual rock formations like Toe Rock and Fist Rock are scattered around too. The Jihye Gwanseeum-bosal statue on the hill above the shore is also worth a look.

Useful tips
- The Gwanseeum-bosal rock and the turtle-shaped rock aren't hard to spot if you look from around Yeonhwadae.
- If you're lucky, you might catch a day when schools of hwangeo (a migratory fish) swarm toward the shore.
- Both admission and parking are free, so it's an easy, low-pressure stop for a short walk.
